The built-in Microsoft Windows Update service may not update your drivers properly. Instead, use The BIOS / Motherboard Driver Update Utility for American Megatrends. It is intelligent software that automatically recognizes your computer's operating system and bios / motherboard manufacturer and model to find the most up-to-date drivers for it. There is no risk of installing the wrong driver. The BIOS / Motherboard Driver Update Utility downloads and installs your drivers quickly and easily.
I agree that HP is the primary source of clean bios for this customized board. The difficulty comes when 10 years expire and all good information, including BIOS update files, are removed from their website. This creates the market for the back-door distributors that may be iffy and push possibly modified updates. This HP support strategy may be common among some manufacturers, but may not be the most productive. Perhaps better strategy is to continue providng free info that was already created (last versions) and could be supported by revenues from targeted advertising for newer HP products, or be subscription based.
I want to update all of the chipset and bios drivers for the computer because they are all original from date of purchase, but when I go through ACERS update page, there are no files available beyond windows 8.
In response...The link to the latest bios did work but it stalled at 98% (Just saying this for information in case anyone else does this). I gave it 10 minutes to complete after everything froze, then forced a shut down and restart of the machine. I loaded the default settings in bios when the computer restarted and everything came back fine. It has updated so thank you. New BIOS Version American Megatrends Inc. P01-B1 07/21/2011
If you can't get any boot behavior at all (this is an AMI BIOS, correct?) you must build a floppy disk with a copy of the correct BIOS renamed to AMIBIOS.ROM. Stick the floppy in the floppy drive, and when you start up the machine hold down the Ctrl-Home keys to force a reload (if it doesn't perform one automatically). When 4 beeps sound, or a reboot prompt appears, remove the floppy, then restart the computer. If this doesn't work you have exactly 2 options:1. Replace the BIOS chip on the mobo2. Replace the entire moboGood luck!--Ed--See -or-undo-corrupt-ami-bios-flash-update/ for more information. 781b155fdc
